On Panafrica Studio Guest: Belo from Haiti and Baloji from Congo


Tune in this Saturday, July 9, 2-4 PM CST (http://www.wort-fm.org/listen.php) for another edition of PANAFRICA on WORT 89.9 FM featuring two upcoming and rising artists from Haiti and Congo. Both are young, talented and rising stars in the world music circuit combining diverse musical styles along with traditional forms. Belo is a socially conscious artist who is highly respected and popular in his home country of Haiti. He combines Rasin, Zouk, Rara, Reggae with the traditional Kompa musical syles of Haiti. His latest album "Haiti Debout" takes him across 11 African countries and Europe. Belo's message of peace and unity resonates across cultures and reflects the resiliency and spirit of his Haitian nation. Belo performs tonite at La fete du Marquette in Madison.


Baloji is a congolese born Belgian rapper whose quest for identity led him on journey back home from Belgium to Congo. From spiritual soul to mouth drum, his texts reflects all episodes of his life.His music takes you on a "Back to Roots" experience, which is more like "Back to the Future", bringing guitars into urban music. Baloji's work cut across traditional rumba, swinging mutuashi, sebene, soukous, Ska roots of reggae, and Nigerian Afro-funk. Baloji produced an amazing performance last night at La Fete du Marquette in Madison.
